Interesting post. I’ve gone from not caring about makeup in college to having a trunk-full of products from high-dollar stores like Ulta and Sephora. At the bare minimum, I try to put on some kind of sunscreen (moisturizer or powder) and a protective lip balm with a bit of color. Many mornings I put on a full set to go to the office; I feel like I’m putting my “game face” on, even though it has no bearing on my job. As someone who has struggled with acne, too, it can be very daunting to walk outside without at least a slight cover of my less-than-perfect skin. I find that tinting my brows and lashes every few weeks also makes me feel better about skipping mascara and brow pencil so I can get out the door faster.

I do enjoy the process of putting on makeup, but I always ask myself: can I live without it if I wake up late some morning(?) As long as I can get through a day of work without letting it ruin my mood, I think I’ll be OK.

I’m an aging millennial with a love of writing, tech, and environmental issues news.
